stylin n' profilin { + 7 days of giveaways! }

a few months ago, i had an exciting opportunity to collaborate with shu uemura art of hair on a short film, which provides a behind-the-scenes peek into my life (specifically, my addiction to ever-evolving hair!), and introducing their new extreme urushi styling lacquer (which i've been faithfully using ever since). finally, the piece has been released!! i'm so blown away by how the project turned out ~ director dominic lahiff was a real inspiration to work with; i learned so much from him (and the entire blonde + co production team) about the magic of film-making. i hope you all enjoy the result:

to celebrate the video's premiere, my friends at shu uemura have generously offered to give away one deluxe hair care package per day, for the next 7 days. the prize pack includes a shampoo, hair mask, essence absolue and extreme urushi (the same product used on my hair in the video). to be entered to win:

1. follow @theglamourai and @shu_artofhair on twitter
2) copy, paste, and tweet the message below:
enter for a chance to win @shu_artofhair products! 7 winners / 7 days. see directions on @theglamourai: http://bit.ly/lj7rkE #SUAOH
3) stay tuned for @shu_artofhair to announce the winners on twitter daily (from now through sunday, june 12th) at 6pm EST. good luck everybody!! { official rules here }

also, i've done a couple interviews recently, for barney's new york and the village voice. check em out?

{ tvland }

recently, producers from the nate berkus show contacted me about doing a feature on my apartment. one thing led to another, and the next thing i knew i was co-piloting an episode about translating your personal style into your home's decor, and given free reign to redesign a viewer's space (with a budget of only $1200!) to better reflect her fashion sense. the episode aired yesterday, but you can check out some highlights in the clips below:

UPDATERY: to answer a few reader questions, the stores i took cat to were ugly luggage & junk (both in williamsburg, brooklyn). the top i wore on the show is from aaron ashe and the skirt is shulami (via modcloth // it first appeared in THIS POST).

{ posh portrait }

nearly dropped dead smack dab in the middle of new york fashion week, when i opened up the daily (it's like the fashion world's version of us weekly), and saw an enormous, full-page photo of myself (taken by the illustrious garance doré, in an ad for glamour's young & post network) staring back at me.

things got even weirder that night, when i found myself at a stoplight in the back of one of nyc's ubiquitous yellow cabs. another cab pulled up beside us ~ and there i was again, smiling down from the car-top advertisement! seriously, seriously surreal.
big thank you's to garance and glamour! i'm so proud to be part of this network of talented ladies. i hope you'll check out all their contributors ~ and before you run off into the weekend, please also take a moment (if you haven't already) and enter my rebecca minkoff giveaway!!

{ so most }

i am immensely flattered to have been named one of the 50 most stylish new yorkers by the too-kind folks over at stylecaster ~ especially since i'm incongruously listed alongside many of my idols (like super-stylist lori goldstein and full-on fashion inferno simon doonan), as well as real-life friends leandra medine and marina munoz. check out the full story HERE ~ then come back over here and PINCH ME!! this is just too too.

PS: i'm proud to be wearing primary | new york in these pics!

{ vote glam }

as you've probably gathered from my sidebar at right, i've (surprisingly!) been nominated for the first-ever bloglovin award for best personal style blog. i'm intensely honored to be in the running alongside four of my favorite internet friends (rumi, jane, emily and karla), and am also delighted to find a few more of my preferred reads ~ like the cut and man repeller ~ chosen in other categories.

i hope you'll all CLICK HERE and vote for your favorites (and please follow me on bloglovin while you're at it). congratulations to everyone else who's been recognized this year, and thank you so much for reading the glamourai!

not long ago, i found myself at a photo studio buried deep in the bronx, gossiping and giggling the day away with jane and leandra (two of the most entertaining of internet sensations), having our photos taken for the march 2011 issue of lucky magazine. CLICK HERE to view the resulting story online ~ and look out for the entire issue, which will be on newsstands everywhere by next tuesday, february 8th!!

{ timing is everything }

{ images via the new york times }

it seems as though i chose the perfect time to grow my hair out ~ and thus cover my awkwardly coiffed shame in turbans ~ because the new york times (aka my information-everything), has just declared this silken headwrap to be the hottest thing in town, and has directed all its readers to my very own tutorial, in order to show the world how it's done! my goodness, i'm flattered.

i, in turn, would like to direct everyone to this gallery on my facebook page, where my own super-awesome readers have been sharing their personalized versions of the look. enjoy!!

{ the holidays hereafter }

now that we're nearly a week into november, there's no forgetting that the holidays are fast approaching. shops everywhere are gearing up with tinsel, prematurely blasting christmas songs ~ and yours truly is loving every minute of it!

i'm definitely not one to ho-hum the holidays; i adore this time of year! i love the increased odds of mashed potatoes being served at any dinner, the gluttonous deserts that don't 'count' until january 1st, the ritual of family traditions, and the giving and getting of gifts.

in anticipation of the season, i've been looking for fun ways to celebrate with all of you. thus, i've got a slew of giveaways planned, starting next week and continuing until december 25th. but to kick things off properly, let's start with a party:

back in july, i was asked by coach to join nine other bloggers and appear in their holiday campaign, which is slated to launch on november 17th in stores across the country. but before it's officially unveiled, you're invited to the preview event on november 12th in nyc! i can assure you from experience that coach really knows how to throw a fancy, festive fĂȘte! i hope to see you there; let's start off the holiday season in style!!

{ sunnies shining }

{ pics courtesy of stylecaster (more images on their site!) }

at the not-so-bitter end of this photoshoot, lori goldstein and i were gabbing about our shared obsession with all styles of sunnies. she decided it would be fun to have me try on just about every pair in the studio ~ and of course i couldn't say no! shoji wanted in on the fun, and thus a second, impromptu shoot had suddenly begun: click, click, change! click, click, CHANGE! lori was thrusting sunnies in my face, shoji was snapping away, and i was just trying to keep up!!

you gotta love people who, even after years in the fashion industry, are still able to be spontaneous and joyful about it all. which reminds me, did everyone catch lori's closet tour on stylelikeu? it's so, so good (don't forget, you saw it here first!).

{ kaleidoscopeyes }

{ samantha wills elephant cuff, solange azagury-partridge heart rings, alain mikli for delfina delettrez sunnies, miu miu tunic }

{ cutler and gross sunnies, noir earrings, ranjana khan necklaces, louis vuitton corset + skirt, miriam salat plastic bangle, mcl by matthew campbell laurenza starfish cuff, mcl by matthew campbell laurenza turquoise cuff, perez sanz silver cuff }

{ ports 1961 cap, tom ford sunnies, karen walker vest, TEM silver necklace, carolina amato gloves, gara danielle cuff, rare vintage cuff with ribbon, marc by marc jacobs pants }

{ etro earrings, peppercotton necklaces, dior by john galliano dress, alexander mcqueen crinoline, erickson beamon bangles, lauren urstadt gloves, manolo blahnik booties }

{ alain mikli sunnies, vintage tee-shirt, swarovski necklace, marc by marc jacobs pants }

i think the pictures say it all, that getting to be a part of this shoot made for a totally dreamy day. lori goldstein (who's always ever-so fashion-flippant!) and shoji van kuzumi (the most brilliantly exacting photographer i've ever worked with. total awe.) created this amazing story for stylecaster.com. { shop savvy }

12by12 { part 2 }

as promised, here are a few more photos from my twelve by twelve collaboration. we shot an incredible 30 looks that day in LA, meaning that between this post and yesterday's, you'll have seen about half! it was a marathon of glamour.

when i arrived on set for this shoot, the twelve by twelve team had already put together a few looks, inspired by my own mixology posts. it was so fun (and surreal!) to see their interpretation of my style! after going through the clothes together, they let me tweak the looks, then style up some more of my own. occasionally, i tossed in a few of my personal accessories, but for the most part, it was all forever21 fun ~ from the clothes to the jewels to the shoes.

the concept for the shoot was my style, but exaggerated ~ so every ensemble had a bit too much of everything (in the best possible way!). we couldn't just use one necklace or one bracelet ~ it had to be at least three or four or five! that was actually a good challenge for me; i loved taking my style to a more extreme place.

it also turned out to be a good lesson. early on in our shoot, i felt a bit uncomfortable when they'd ask me to 'please add just a few more bangles.' but by the end of the day, my drive to overdose on accessories couldn't be stopped! in fact, it was the look below (one of the last we shot) that afterward inspired me to have my chloe sunnies changed into prescription glasses ~ the 'hostess in marrakesh' mood just wouldn't have worked as well without the secretary specs!

the lesson stuck; it's inspired me to do two things: (a) put a little more effort into my everyday hair & makeup (usually, i vacillate between enjoying being super natural, or channeling my inner drag queen ~ rarely anything in between), and (b) to wear even more jewelry than i do already!

both initiatives will begin once NY has recovered from this heat wave we're currently under, of course.

{ above: my favorite look! followed closely by the one below. }

indeed, between the graffiti backdrops (which forever21's display team made specially for me!) and colorful clothes, it was the dramatic but elegant hair and makeup that pulled everything together. i loved the flapper-style finger waves that candice birns put in my hair for some of the looks; i wish i could style my coif that way every day! and samuel paul was so gentle and careful; he treated my face like a canvas to be painted into perfection. it was immediately obvious why he's such a favorite on the celebrity circuit!

all in all, it was a really incredible experience. and, i'm happy to say, not the last time i'll be working with them this summer. more surprises lay in wait!

unfortunately, i don't have any sort of inside scoop on when certain pieces will arrive in stores ~ meaning that i'll be checking everyday for the safety-pin-print top to drop, just like everyone else!

PS: twelve by twelve has just updated their site with a great lookbook from our shoot, with my own musings on a few of these favorite looks!

{ the glamourai loves } 12by12

inspired by my well-documented penchant for mixology, last month the design team behind twelve by twelve (forever21's dressier sister line), invited me out to LA to collaborate on (and star in!) their summer campaign. i've been on pins and needles, waiting to share!

at last, the first images (and the clothes!) have debuted on their website ~ and there's much more to come!

{ all clothes by twelve by twelve, art direction by amy makkabi, photography by zooey grossman (who, coincidentally, also shot THIS amazing story!), hair by candice birns, makeup by samuel paul }

{ screen gems }

although i'm several years past puberty, i still count teen vogue among my favorite magazines. their editorial styling always nails that fine line between attainable and aspirational, making it a delightful read for all ages. and while they may lose my attention whenever the robert pattinson crush-gushing begins, there is one feature in this month's issue that's got me extra-specially excited:

{ click any page to view a zoom-able version! }

{ social studies }

forgive this minor interruption from the week's spotted spectacular, but i just had to share a newsy little something sent over by one of my readers:

women's wear daily thinks i'm one of the internet's 12 best fashion destinations ~ right up there with vogue italia and net-a-porter!!! i don't usually post press clips here, but this one was just too too to ignore! and i quote:

"cleverly written by busy-bee stylist/jewelry designer/blogger kelly framel, this site unveils a visual feast of the author's "costumes" (she recently segued from vintage nut to pretty punk) alongside lots of images of just about anything that strikes her fancy, be it a pile of doll heads at a texas flea market or chanel's nouvelle vague nail lacquer. her running commentary is brief, albeit sharp, and framel herself is hard to peel your eyes from. a genuine dyed-in-the-wool stylista."

end quote. and i'm speechless. thank you dana wood & WWD!
