{ bits, bobs } and barneys

katie rodgers, of the lovely blog paper fashion, made an illustrated version of this moving picture. creativity abounds on the internet!

also, i've done a couple interviews recently, for barney's new york and the village voice. check em out?

{ four years } + 19 days ago...

...i was 22 years old, and in the midst of enjoying my first full summer in NYC (i migrated from austin, texas in the fall of 2005). i had just moved from manhattan to williamsburg, and had the longest hair of my life (grown out from my college-era platinum-blond pixie). while ambling toward brunch, i met a photographer from japan, who asked to make some photos of me. i wasn't really aware of street style blogs yet, and thus acquiesced a bit apprehensively:

{ portrait by justin waldron // june 2006 }

said photog turned out to be one half of the creative force behind online magazine nothing fancy volumes, whose team turned my street snaps into this fantastic time-capsule of an illustration:

{ illustration by dewey saunders + ashley boone pierce // june 2006 }

incredibly, i had forgotten about both of these until yesterday, when they (via justin) reappeared out of the blue in my email inbox. what a flashback!! my life has changed so much since then ~ new york years move like dog years; i hardly feel like the same person.

yet even then i was rocking necklaces of my own design, my favorite antique scarab ring (which was still on my finger today when this email came through!), and some serious statement sunnies. be it past or present, i am what i am.

{ eyes of love }

at tuesday night's epic hermes party at the armory, there was a caricature artist painting watercolor portraits of the guests. of course, i had to get one with my love-y sunnies! happy valentines day my dears!!! i do adore you all.

{ illustrious }

my jaw dropped when i received this enchanting illustration by artist julie nivert, who was inspired by this post. a peek at her blog revealed that this piece reflects a mere fraction of her talent. i'm so touched by the tribute!

{ links a lot } friday the thirteenth

this has been a crazy week over on mount glamouramous ~ thus the slowdown in posting. things should be back to normal before you know it, but in the meantime i thought i'd share a few of this week's hippest happenings...

{illustration courtesy of talented reader liz blair ~ thanks liz!}
  • i met laurakitty, a photo blogger who lives but a block from me and owns no less that 60 vintage ossie clark dresses! as a result, i experienced extreme jealousy, and now plan to infiltrate her apartment and execute epic thievery.
  • need some craft-spiration to brighten up your dark winter days? i started a tumblr blog to keep track of all the DIY ideas i want to try.
  • suddenly sucked into the virtual vortex that is ruelala, i've been on bargain-buying binges that begat marc jacobs cashmeres and wolford hosiery. email me {theglamourai@gmail.com} if you'd like an invitation to shop along!
~ how was your week? ~

glamour eyes

the lovely + talented alice, of the art/blog/portfolio xAZD design, made the most charming pastel drawing of me, inspired by this post. i think she did an amazing job ~ i'm totally flabbergasted!

this piece is one of many beautiful works showcased on her stunning site. i love how alice and her two blogmates (all three are fashion students in new york) combine influences from art, fashion, and media in their work ~ one of my favorite examples being this collaged page from the new york times style section:

thank you xAZD!!!
