costume of the day / back in black

late last night, i returned to nyc from a blissful thanksgiving holiday with my grandparents in western pennsylvania. it was lovely to spend a few days cuddled up with their cats in front of a roaring fire, drinking tea and eating myself silly. but by golly, i missed my high heels!

wearing: D+G butterfly sunnies, self-designed glamourwrap, leather love necklace, maltese marigold ring {below left} & cathedral ring {below right}, F21 dress & tights, topshop boots

while i was lazing about in silky pajama sets, many of you donned much more impressive ensembles in honor of the alice in wonderland / corvus noir competition. i LOVE the photos i've received so far; please keep them coming! there are still 2 days left to enter.

meanwhile, we do have a winner for the crafty crow caftan: congrats to fiona m!!!

open season

yesterday was dedicated to thanksgiving in the states, and i have much to be thankful for. besides my amazing readers (who i hope will forgive my lack of costume shots this week ~ i'm on holiday!), i am blessed by a fantastic family and a great glamourguy ~ all of whom make my life quite joyful.

~

today, however, is set by quite another tone entirely. on this day, 'open season' officially begins for holiday hunters. it's shopping time.

naturally, i'll be out vintage pillaging all day, scouring for stuff for myself gifts. however, if you happen to be sane enough to stay home, you may want to check out the 24-hour-only sale on shrimptoncouture.com:

(use code BF2009 for 10% off everything in the shrimpton shop, plus another 10% off your next purchase!)

i advise that you stop off at shrimpton couture to find something special {on sale!} for yourself, then go to the glamporium to get through your gifting list in a cinch ~ i've already started adding scores of inexpensive stocking stufferies into the shop!

alice for the win!

the creators of corvus noir {who made me this lovely lariat} caught on to my alice infatuation, and have offered to indulge one lucky reader with this custom-made 1950's engorsele pocketwatch necklace, which any aspiring white rabbit would wish for:

want to win it? here's what to do:
pull inspiration from any of these posts, and put together your wonderlandiest ensemble!

channel any 'alice in wonderland' character you like, but make it modern. then, snap a photo and email it to theglamourai@gmail.com before midnight of december 2nd {EST}. everyone who sends in a pic prior to this deadline will automatically receive a coupon code, good for 10% off any item on corvusnoir.com {good through the holidays}.

the BEST photos will go live on this site next wednesday, at which point i'll put it to you ~ the readers ~ to decide who deserves to win!

good luck everyone! i can't WAIT to see your creative costumery!!

alice in burtonland

no visual celebration of alice's adventures in wonderland would be complete without an anticipatory article dedicated to tim burton's upcoming cinematic circus! i cannot WAIT for this production to premiere in march:

{ahoy! ~ surprising stylistic synthesis spotted! see how alice's gloves are so similar to those i sported yesterday.}

i see stripes, suspenders, smocking ~ and astoundingly audacious eyeshadow ~ making a colossal comeback this spring!

alice in vogue

in light of my current 'alice in' wanderlust, i couldn't resist posting these iconic vogue images, by photographer annie leibovitz:

{as nicholas ghesquiere naps, natalia vodianova slips through the looking glass}

{tom ford is the white rabbit}

{my favorite shot of all! / also, how i expect to feel after this thursday's thanksgiving supper}

{steven jones plays the mad hatter, with christian lacroix as the march hare}

{john galliano is the queen of hearts, with alexis roche as his king}

i'm sure most of you have seen these before, and yet they still feel fresh!
