{ new bags }

i've been on a bag-buying-bender recently!! these four are my favorite new acquisitions: your classic chanel 2.55, a vintage gold-hardware ferragamo that i'll wear till i rot, that giraffe-applique-pattern charles jourdan clutch that does day-to-night double duty, and this red-froth box with beaded bow that was generously gifted to me by my pals at lena erziak. that one's obviously got #fashionweek written all over it.

{ crème brûlée }

with our sojourn in malibu temporarily terminated (yes, there is a potential part four, but you'll have to wait a bit!), we return to normal programming around here for a while. however, in the interest of keeping things sunny at least a little longer, how about a costume the color of custard:

{ lanvin for h+m sunnies, cotton candy coat (available in red HERE), gifted ani lee dress, fendi watch, pour la victoire bag, chanel boots (they zip from toe to thigh ~ i'm obsessed!) }

{ the fancy }

{ pentax camera, chanel clutch, new york times newsprint-scented candle, alexander mcqueen card case, iwona ludyga ring, ny + la tables, emerson made jacket, arne jacobsen chair // all via the fancy }

having a birthday (like i did yesterday) means you get at least a month's week's worth of acceptable excuses to senselessly shop for yourself. which further means, this is the is the wrong time for me to get into the fancy ~ a highly-dangerous site for aesthetically-obsessed online lurkers like myself.

also bolstering my desire to buy stuff? watching american pickers on netflix! are you into it too?

{ high/low }

recently on twitter, someone asked what my preferred nail polish is. truth be told, i'm an equal-opportunity experimenter in this arena. due in large part to all the jewelry-making i do, my nails require frequent repainting. so i like to mix it up!

lately my favorites fall into two categories: cheap-o and chanel:

{ chanel colors (bottom row) from left to right: inattendu, jade, particulière, black pearl, paradoxal, peridot, nouvelle vague, khaki rose // all the others are in portuguese! }

i've long looked to chanel for trend-setting colors, but cutting-edge comes with quite a cost. that's why i was so excited last month in sao paulo to discover that a bottle of nail polish there sells for about $1.50, and their standard drugstores stock every color under the sun!! i picked up roughly twenty new tones ~ my sister stole half of them upon my return to new york (and yet she also gave me many of the designer varietals pictured here, so we're cool); the few i managed to hold on to are interspersed with my high-end favorites in these photos:

shooting this, i noticed that i tend to choose mauve-y neutrals, smokey metallics, dusky plums, and the occasional glint of green. one that i'm especially excited about is peridot (center, below). it's my birthstone and the finish reminds me of the holographic sheen of beetle wings:

i also really love my brand-new brazilian 3D topcoat (bottom left, below; you saw me wear it HERE) ~ it's great on its own and layers fantastically with every other color:

what's your favorite nail color or polish line? is there any one that we all simply must try?!

{ mademoiselle }

my locks have finally gotten long enough for me to curl ~ and now i can't stop! i love changing my hair because it lets me feel like i'm stepping into a new character, and this one seems softer and more lighthearted than ever before. which is sort of how i feel these days! style really is such a communicative medium.

{ gifted juicy couture sunnies (remember when i told you all about our love story?), vintage lea stein brooch from ebay, jf + son blouse, rachel rachel roy shorts (last seen HERE), vintage chanel bag }

{ slick city }

{ leopard-lined umbrella from nordstrom rack, house of harlow sunnies (originally in THIS POST), vintage anne klein earrings, vintage trench (i recently replaced its originally too-matchy mustard buttons, which made a world of difference), banana republic heritage vest (recently seen HERE and HERE), vintage chanel belt (i bought it on my last trip to austin, and introduced in THIS POST), juicy couture cuff (last seen HERE), vintage 50's skirt (i discovered in on this day in las vegas), hue socks, stuart weitzman boots (also seen HERE) }

while i've been dreaming about sandals and swimsuits, the weather has actually stayed pretty nasty in new york (it's slowly warming up slightly, but those famed april showers are in full effect!). good thing there's costumery for all occasions! to check out more of my rain day duds, click HERE and HERE.

{ social studies }

forgive this minor interruption from the week's spotted spectacular, but i just had to share a newsy little something sent over by one of my readers:

women's wear daily thinks i'm one of the internet's 12 best fashion destinations ~ right up there with vogue italia and net-a-porter!!! i don't usually post press clips here, but this one was just too too to ignore! and i quote:

"cleverly written by busy-bee stylist/jewelry designer/blogger kelly framel, this site unveils a visual feast of the author's "costumes" (she recently segued from vintage nut to pretty punk) alongside lots of images of just about anything that strikes her fancy, be it a pile of doll heads at a texas flea market or chanel's nouvelle vague nail lacquer. her running commentary is brief, albeit sharp, and framel herself is hard to peel your eyes from. a genuine dyed-in-the-wool stylista."

end quote. and i'm speechless. thank you dana wood & WWD!

{ inspiration abloom }

these images have been pinned to the moodboard in my studio for ages. the anemone (it looks like the drunken cousin of a gerbera daisy) has long been my favorite flower, and i love how chanel worked them as a theme into their spring 2010 collection:

in this post, you saw a sneaky peeky of how this inspiration made its way into my work. as the anemone symbolizes anticipation, it seems appropo to let you know that my interpretation of this idea will debut in full bloom tomorrow!

{ costume of the day } breton tee

{ drugstore sunnies, the glamourai earrings, necklace [it's all one piece! similar styles coming soon to shrimpton couture.] and rings, chanel 'nouvelle vague' nail polish, h+m top, rag+bone pants, balenciaga shoes, vintage chanel bag }

i become a bit of a brat when a new season rolls around; i just want to prance around and luxuriate in all its excesses! for spring, that means wearing my non-wintery-est white shoes, ivory bags, jade jewels (the color of newborn buds!), and that quintessential spring thing: the breton sweater. a total classic, breton tops dominate a strong portion of my warm weather wardrobe (you've seen me wear a variation on the look HERE, and i've more recently ordered this addition).

as with any classic, i think it's best punked up with a mess of accessories and irreverent nails:

what are your spring season style stalwarts?

{ new blue } robin's egg hue

candy colored nails have officially become mainstream. as such, i planned to give them up ~ and had been doing so quite well for the last few months. but then, chanel had to come out with a new blue hue to beat my best determinations!

if last year was all about their jade (left), then this spring unequivocally belongs to nouvelle vague (translated to mean 'new wave' / also the name of a legitimately great cover band!). chanel's beauty products get me every time; as i announced on twitter, i even recently began using their deodorant! ridiculous, i know. anyway, au revoir for now, i'm off to have my nails done!
