at the not-so-bitter end of this photoshoot, lori goldstein and i were gabbing about our shared obsession with all styles of sunnies. she decided it would be fun to have me try on just about every pair in the studio ~ and of course i couldn't say no! shoji wanted in on the fun, and thus a second, impromptu shoot had suddenly begun: click, click, change! click, click, CHANGE! lori was thrusting sunnies in my face, shoji was snapping away, and i was just trying to keep up!!

you gotta love people who, even after years in the fashion industry, are still able to be spontaneous and joyful about it all. which reminds me, did everyone catch lori's closet tour on stylelikeu? it's so, so good (don't forget, you saw it here first!).

i'm working on a project with stylist lori goldstein today, which inspired me to revisit the set of photos i made at her new york loft back in june (originally posted HERE and HERE).

to follow are some pretty detail moments that were left out of those first two posts ~ too lovely to have have stayed unseen so long! they're a nice reminder that style and sparkle are welcome in even the littlest moments of our lives:

{ costume of the day } easy // breezy

as evidenced by my recent ode to ikea, lately my life has involved a lot of running around between furniture, lighting, paint and hardware stores. not super glam, but fairly fun in its own way. if only it weren't so darn hot outside! this is the time of year when, if i manage to find something breezy and cool, i tend to wear it every. single. day.

this slouchy, silken shirt is one such piece (i also had it on here) ~ and as i write this post, i'm going on day three in these über-louche harem pants:

life at lori's { part II }

yesterday, i showed you a little hint of the wonderful wardrobe of stylist lori goldstein. today, prepare to be charmed by the chic chelsea loft that contains all that glamour!

lori's decor is executed with a thoroughly modern sensibility ~ but manages at the same time to be completely homey and inviting. warm, personal touches (like massive quartz, crystals and blocks of exotic wood) soften the space, as super luxe designer furniture mingles with tribal rugs, friends' artwork, and fashion finds too fab to be hidden away in closets.

it's a clever combination of carefully curated and artfully unstudied ~ and somehow it all feels like something you'd want to wear. isn't that what everyone wants in their home?!


it's been said that everything you need to know about a person can be gleaned from spending an hour in their abode. the little vignette below ~ in which figurines of the hindu god ganesh are flanked by minuscule hermes and louis vuitton shopping bags ~ pretty much sums up lori g. to me!

indeed, sweet details surprise in every corner. that's why, creepy as it may seem, i even had to take my camera with me into the powder room:

like my hostess herself proclaimed, "even faucets are important, darling!"...

...as are desks, chairs, and storage boxes (r&y augousti make her favorites):

one thing this apartment has in common with my own? they both really belong to our dogs. lori's 15-year-old pup, lucy, lounges on pillows made from an old dries van noten dress...

creative, talented people always manage to have equally illustrious friends. one of lori's besties, painter maggie vitagliano, made this quirky portrait of her, which has since become the icon of the logo line she designs for QVC:

it's absolutely too adorable ~ just like the lively lass (with the lovely loft) who inspired it!

life at lori's { part I }

knowing how decorating-obsessed i've become since my recent move, my friend karen urged me to pop by stylist lori goldstein's NYC loft yesterday to soak up a little inspiration. and then some!

i had no idea what a tremendous treat i was in for...

lori is the ultimate fashion insider ~ a real stylist, in the truest sense of the term. you'll not find her vying for camera time on the street style circuit, or tattling on TV about red carpet disasters. she's too busy consulting on the biggest collections and ad campaigns in the business (vera, herrera, versace), commandeering a QVC empire, and running around the world concocting editorial stories for italian vogue with steven meisel. to say that she styled my favorite editorial (of all time) should pretty much say it all. i'm in ladylove.
don't you just adore it when you meet someone, and immediately it feels as though you've known them forever? well, my 'pop by' her pad ended up lasting nearly four hours. after discussing, at length, the power of accessories, we dug through her colossal closet (you don't even want to know how many birkins), her jewels (ditto on the diamonds), and old polaroids of karl lagerfeld and gia carangi.

we talked about life, art, swapped war work stories, and concocted shopping trips and party plans for the future. i'm going to put together a whole other post on her dazzling decor ~ but first, here's a dizzy little peek into our fashion-fantasy fun:
