{ another LBD } + a giveaway!

i've been all about the classics lately ~ in the past week, i've worn two denim + striped top combinations, and today marks my second little-black-dress-based ensemble in the same amount of time.

the fact is, a simple shift is the perfect solution when one needs to stay chic despite the completely blistering heat. just add minimal jewels (it's really too hot for serious accessories, so i just went for earrings here), plus a killer pair of kicks and a cute clutch:

the best thing about this outfit is that i get to share a piece of it with you!! ellington handbags (a new sponsor of this site), is generously giving away this pretty clutch (in either blue, red or black) to one lucky reader. to enter, just 'like' ellington on facebook, then leave them a comment letting them know which color you want. a winner will be selected next week!

{ summertime } and the livin's easy

{ karen walker sunnies, helmut lang jacket (seen with the same shorts HERE), banana republic heritage vest (last seen HERE), kelly framel tangerine tiki necklace & hot pink skull necklace, ya tank courtesy of modcloth, alexander wang shorts, christian louboutin shoes, bag courtesy of coach }

my favorite days are when i feel at once comfortable and chic ~ so i'm really loving all my easy summer separates. something's just clicking this season! speaking of, i finally took these shorts to the cleaners, and it was embarrassingly hard to do. if i can't go a week without them in my wardrobe, how did i ever survive before?! #creatureofhabit

PS: who's planning to come out to juicy couture for tomorrow's party? i hope i get to meet a lot of you there!! i've got a cute outfit picked out and everything.

{ everything }

{ karen walker sunnies, kelly framel elephant necklace, helmut lang blazer (it's nearly identical to THIS ONE, but in linen!), maddy ...k blouse courtesy of modcloth (favorite thing ever from them?), chan luu wrap bracelet, alexander wang shorts and shoes, rebecca minkoff clutch }

do you think it would be acceptable for me to wear this outfit every day for the rest of my life? because it's already been three times this week. it's essentially the summerized version of THIS ONE, but even more comfortable. #seriousfave

{ floating off }

{ lanvin for h+m sunnies, kelly framel butterfly leaf earrings (NOW ON SALE!), gifted white + warren cardigan & kimberly taylor dress (available in white HERE), eryn brinie belt, TOV skirt courtesy of modcloth (last seen HERE), vintage clutch, bvlgari + vintage rings, rebecca minkoff shoes }

white + warren (makers of both this pretty cardigan, and the yummy lovelies i wore HERE) are sending me out to montauk for the weekend, with a trunk full of their spring clothes to photograph by the beach. tough life, huh?! make sure to follow this twitter link for updates from the front. i'll *try* not to tweet too many expletives after the sure-to-be-disastrous surfing lesson they foolhardily signed me up for!! terrified (in a good way) for that one.

{ t.rex }

i've been having a lot of fun letting this not-so-small sculpture of a necklace roam around my apartment all week. most recently, he's been drinking tea and attacking angels. { monserat de lucca necklace courtesy of modcloth }

{ hat party }

in light of new york's recent, unrelenting rain, last week i decided to play dress-up indoors, with a couple cool hats and two new crop tops. { look 1: lanvin hat, snakeskin-print blouse courtesy of modcloth // look 2: sensei hat, butterfly-print blouse courtesy of modcloth }

{ repeat anew }

i ordered the blouse below around the time of my recent quintessentially post, and linked to it therein ~ siting it as a more understated way to wear the featured ensemble. more recently, unintentionally, i finished that thought:

i didn't realize until after shooting these photos how similar this look was to the latter example. if i had, i might not have shot it ~ but the truth is in real life we all wear our favorite pieces and silhouettes over and over, all the time. and this turned out to be a good example of how to wear the same look in a different (one month closer to summer) sort of way!

{ quintessentially }

usually i don't like to get terribly gabby about my get-ups. they're just things i wear (then share) ~ not too much to wax poetic about. but you guys i just HAVE to talk about this one! it is a compilation of so many of my favorite things:
let's start with the jacket. it's the same one i wore HERE, this time with the bouclé bottom-half zipped off. who doesn't love pieces that can be worn in multitudinous ways?! it's another lovely from primary | new york ~ a line i collaborate with my friend cleo on (she does the real work, i just pop in and out to provide occasional creative consulting and styling services. it's a fun gig!). the collection is all about offering those perfect building blocks for your wardrobe, and as i've been unable to stop wearing the living out of all my primary pieces this season (as proven by many, many costume posts), methinks it achieves its aim.
and the blouse below? oh, the blouse below! also infinitely transformable.

it's meant to be worn long and tunic-like ~ when done so it makes a lovely shape, like sails floating behind you. these can be tamed by utilizing the hidden keyholes, which allow you to loop a belt through. however, i like it best buttoned twice, with the remaining front-length scooped into an enormous knot. this brings all the back-draping forward, achieving a stouty trapeze silhouette. for a more understated iteration of the idea, i just put in a polite plea for THIS PIECE.

the skirt was last seen HERE. it would not be an exaggeration to say it's my favorite thing in my closet right now. it's got everything: a tight, high waist (cinched with a cool, super-wide, black elastic band), fantastically full volume, LEOPARD PRINT, and pockets!! if i didn't feel compelled to keep things interesting around here, i might just don it every day.

the boots i used to wear constantly, but until today they've remained untouched for nearly two years. pulling them out again made me thankful for well-made shoes ~ the kind you can wear every day of every east coast winter for a while, give a small sabbatical to, then return to seasons later and they're still as good as new (albeit with one or two re-soles along the way). the more clothes i see, the more i appreciate pieces like these.

{ M&M's } modcloth + marni

for me, winter doldrums inevitably lead to increased online shopping (especially when i seem to be snowed in every day!), and i'm currently craving way too many things from modcloth's offering. luckily a few of the beauties below are already en route to my wardrobe ~ but which would you choose?

{ clockwise from top left: black + cream dress ($45), planet earth-print tunic ($90), boxy fox bag ($115), plastic animals necklace rack ($60), black-pocket top ($38), polkadot romper ($45), spunky all-star-style socks ($8), which i would wear with these open-front prada shoes (full post HERE), floral palazzo pants ($70), fiery floral blouse ($88) }
-----
meanwhile in mixology, i'm positively flipping for marni's prefall 2011 lineup (favorites below). the silhouettes and styling are so, so right ~ and the pieces themselves are appropriately minimalistic at moments, but still totally textural, and adorably, opulently layered. it's just the sort of everyday inspiration i was unknowingly craving right this second, as it's all so uncannily close to perfect:
