it is blisteringly, witheringly, searingly hot out.

and it's still only june! how will we survive this punishing summer, my friends? i so love dressing up ~ but right now, don't want a thing touching my skin (save the skimpiest of swatches). and yet, i refuse to go anywhere near a t-shirty tank dress. i'd rather melt.

my preferred solution? enter the following:

beloved by both golden girls and goddesses, the caftan is a ventilated vestment for which i've long held an abiding affection. what better way to stay cool, while infusing evening-gown-glamour into your daytime attire?!

alas, in today's separates-centric shopping landscape, it seems they are increasingly hard to find. i've collected a few vintage treasures, but it looks like i'll be needing three months worth! have you any tips for where to find the best (preferably online ~ better yet, on a budget!)? if so, please spill! i'm seriously sweating in anticipation.

i just have to tell you: it is savagely hot in new york right now.

nevertheless, this getup made me feel pretty cool ~ like a 1940's/50's hawaiian-vacation-promotional pinup girl. in other words, summer style ideal? or, at least as close as it gets outside a maillot.

{ party pages } summer scoop

last night, i had the pleasure of attending a cocktail party at scoop in manhattan's meatpacking district, followed by a gorgeous dinner at the standard grill, to fête designer minnie mortimer's newest collection.

the range sang of summering at the shore ~ making me all the more excited for the season's inception! i'm headed out to east hampton later today, and plan to stop by the scoop store there to pick up her cheeky gingham romper:

in further summer spirit, i've found myself ~ like never before ~ suddenly lusting for fun flats. this is a whole new world for me, so i'm taking suggestions. who makes your favorite pair?

just back & still spinning from a gorgeous girls-only getaway in mexcio, where my mom, sister and i indulged in sunlight, snorkeling, sangria, and spanish smocks!
