{ a new lease } on legs

back in the 80's, when i was a young mutt, oshkosh b'gosh was the peak of children's chic. every mom of the era ~ including mine ~ was hellbent on getting their offspring into those overalls and dungarees!
but i had a mind of my own ~ and an impressive lung capacity to boot. i would scream at my poor mother "I ONLY WEAR DRESSES!" and so it was.

so it has also been for most of my life. mummy dearest wanted to start me off on trend, but my dye had long been cast in another direction. stiff, biped duds have never really been 'me'; i might as well have been born with webbed legs.

since i started this blog, i've begun getting box after unsolicited box of jeans in the mail. i truly appreciate the sentiment, but am almost always unsure of what to do with them.

in a way, i actually envy girls for whom throwing on jeans is as routine as brushing teeth. truth is, there's no other garment that causes me more dressing-room anxiety. i find them very hard to wear! how do you make them elegant? breezy? soft? textured? glam?!?! i'm much more at ease in charmeuse and chiffon.

and yet, i guess there's an ornery little girl still living inside me, who needs to rebel against my own norm now and then. so, every once in a while, i sneakily slide on a pair of jeans, strut around feeling brassy and bold... and then slither back into my gauzy, girly stuff, feeling just as empowered as before ~ if not more.

i am your exact opposite :) for me, wearing denim is as easy as breathing...but dresses give me more to think about. i do love them, i just need a bit of a nudge.

you look super in the pierre hardy + gap denim wedges. love!

I love the jeans! I can totally appreciate your dilemma, I'm very hourglass and I struggle to feel good in jeans. I usually just default to dresses or skirts too.

You look beautiful as always!

Only you could make jeans look so glamorous! I adore all the shades of blue. This look is inspiring for even me, a girl who has to resist wearing boyfriend jeans everyday.

how you explained yourself is practically who i am! I'm muchhh more of a dress girl rather than jeans but sometimes I like to wear something ungirly to switch it up a bit! :D Love this post!

Umm, well jeans seem to really like you - AND they totally help to flaunt the color of your eyes. 1st photo......wow.

And if you ever need a place to dump unwanted boxes of unsolicited jeans....I will gladly be there to help you out with that.

You look great in them!! The blouse and jewelry gives it a touch of softness and femininity, which is totally you.

I feel for you, although I am of two minds when it comes to jeans. I seem to go through phases, weeks where I want to wear nothing but jeans and then I swing back to non-stop frocks!
I do love those jeans though, the pocket detailing is just gorgeous, you look great!

For me, my desire to wear jeans is largely seasonally based. Come fall and winter, my black skinny jeans have been my staple for the last two years. Yet once the weather turns warm, the LAST thing I want to wear is jeans, so breezy skirts and dresses are my favoured wardrobe picks.

I like jeans with a distinctive cut. I have a great wide-legged high-waisted trouser style from Citizens of Humanity that dresses up any outfit when worn with fun shoes and lots of jewelry.

I can totally relate to the dilemma!

For me Jeans are like this:
If i find a wonderful pair, then I can wear them to death, but I only manage to do that every couple of years...

You look stunning anyway! :)

I feel you Kelly! I don't feel as good in jeans as I do in dresses and skirts. I feel so ill at ease when I wear jeans too many times in a week.

I've always wanted to be a 'dress' girl, but for some reason I seem to buy pants and shorts more so than dresses. Although I am trying to change that now. I love your blouse and that stunning bib necklace. You definitely do those skinny jeans justice so I don't think it would hurt to throw them on once in awhile, since you already do that any way. Gorgeous outfit and those Pierre Hardy for Gap shoes are awesome too.

When I was a little girl I had a similar preference for dresses and skirts. Every morning when my mom would wake me up for school, no matter what the weather, I would ask to be able to wear a skirt or dress. Although, not as glamorous as yourself, I've found my adult self to be a lot like the little girl I once was.

The heels are amazing!

You could have fooled me! I think the top is a feminine complement to the jeans - it still says "Glamouri". If you're looking for a more "rocker grunge" look for your denim, try using a cheese grater or razor to rough up certain parts of the jeans - the pockets, the bottoms, maybe a spot on the thigh here and there. I must admit, I've been much more into tailored denim lately (wish I could wear it to work!), but haven't worn a full-on jean in a while because it's been so hot!

You look lovely, as always!

I completely hear you! I feel much more at ease in my vintage duds then a pair of denim...but yet, I have over 50 pairs! I still enjoy wearing them time and again...but always will prefer my vintage clothing over the norm! :)

And this outfit is something I would DEF wear! I am loving this shirt...and these jeans are so perfect with this top...I am going to check out these jeans online, because I can really see myself wearing them. They are a lot like my BlankNYC cargos with the pocket detail...love 'em!

And do not even get me started on your ring and your shoes...you have paired your accessories so perfectly. Great look, girl! :)

Those are amazing jeans!

One of my best pictures (of ALL TIME) was when I, as a young girl, would also only wear skirts and dresses, and my mom wanted me to wear jeans because it was a cold and rainy day, forgetting it was picture day at my pre-school. We eventually compromised on my wearing BOTH the jeans and the skirt that I wanted ... and since it was picture day, I have forever been immortalized in that outfit, next to all my little friends in their Sunday best.

The jeans look great - but I'm with you - if you can steer away from wearing them - I think the better!

LOVE your post as always!

b/c society told me so, i always thought denim was the easy go-to casual look for us lasses. only now at 27 am i realizing how UNCOMFORTABLE and restricting they are! i do not HAVE to wear them! im much more comfy in a dress or skirt, and they suit my personality so much better.

I have to admit that jeans are my uniform. The only time I do a complete 180 is in the summer when I'm almost always in a dress. I'm wearing skinny cargos today and it feels a little funny, almost suffocating... but 275 days of the year it's denim all the way.
Thos jeans look great on you!

Oh, I can't believe somebody thinks the same as me about jeans! I also find it very difficult to wear them, and now I don't have a single pair of blue jeans because of that! Moreover, seeing them every day on a lot of people doesn't make them look so special, and I like to wear things that look a bit extra.ordinary :)) When I really feel like wearing blue pants, I wear plain or patterned blue pants. Just that. Jeans...maybe some other time:))

I think this outfit is great! How cool are those jeans? I love the pockets on the thighs. As much as I'd love to say I wear dresses and skirts all the times, the truth is, I live in jeans! I'm not really sure why I do though, they aren't too comfy and skirts and dresses make me so happy. Hmm we'll have to do something about this ;)

I was the opposite- a major little tom boy! (It didn't help that my name is Peta and my mum chopped off all my hair!). I wouldn't let my poor mum do anything girlie with my hair and I hated wearing dresses. If she managed to get me in one, I'd insist on wearing sand shoes/sneakers with it! It's taken me nearly 30 years to feel comfortable/confident in a dress and now....I love them! I still have a bit of the fiery tom boy rebel in me though and still don't like people telling me what to do! I'm glad you've embraced jeans- they can be great when worn well.
